1) Taking your girlfriend to work
Yeon: Will it really be all right?
Ji Ah: Yeah. At least in this life, I don’t want to get the people around me killed. Let’s fight that guy* [bastard] together. Since we’re fighting anyway, I’d like to win, but...
Yeon: Never in my life have I fought and lost. ...If anything happens-
Ji Ah: You’ll come running.
Yeon: See you in an hour.
Ji Ah: Yup. I’m off!
*’nom’2) Ji Ah and Lee Rang’s true first encounter
Ji Ah: Not one of the cameras was in working order? Even though it was a Gangnam wedding hall and not some traditional market? What about a physical description?
Jae Hwan: They said his face wasn’t very memorable.
Ji Ah: That’s all?
Jae Hwan: They said he was carrying an umbrella. A red one.
Ji Ah: Umbrella? Jae Hwan-ah, search everything outside the building. A dashcam or whatever, he only has to have been caught on one.
Jae Hwan: Okay.
3) I want to catch him like crazy!
Ji Ah: The cause of the accident was what?
Jae Hwan: Brake malfunction.
Ji Ah: That makes no sense.
Jae Hwan: That’s according to the results of the police investigation, not me.
Ji Ah: What about the fingerprints I lifted off that bag?
Jae Hwan: They said you’ll be getting a call tomorrow.
Sae Rom: Hey, I heard you met him? Red Umbrella. What’d you think?
Ji Ah: It’s driving me crazy. I want to catch him like crazy.
Sae Rom: Okay. I did some digging into Fox Ridge. Mt. Gwanak is right near here, right? Apparently, this was once a premier fox habitat. According to one legend, when General Gang Gam Chan was passing by here once, he [?] a fox.
Jae Hwan: Why?
Sae Rom: A fox in human form kept bewitching [?]. This is a paper summarizing the historic records. Have a read. It’s interesting.
Ji Ah: ...Come to think of it, it’s foxes again.
Sae Rom: What do you mean ‘again’?
Ji Ah: You two clock out first. I have to stop by somewhere.
n.b. Gang Gam Chan (948-1031 C.E.) was a government official and military commander during the early Goryeo Dynasty (918–1392 C.E.). According to legend, he was the son of a human aristocrat and a fox.4) Lee Rang awaiting Ji-Ah at the funeral hall
[No dialogue]5) A spoonful of omitted horror
Ji-Ah: Is no one there!?
6) After normal people put on the Tiger’s Eyebrows
Sae Rom: Augh, this won’t do. Let’s drink. At times like this, you have to use alcohol to wash your brain out a bit.
Jae Hwan: Writer-nim.
Sae Rom: Hm?
Jae Hwan: Can you pinch me once? (bites him) AH!!
Sae Rom: Augh!
7) If anything happens to Ji Ah, Lee Yeon will come running
Ji Ah: You’re saying Imoogi controls peoples minds?
Yeon: Yeah.
Ji Ah: So that’s why all those people died like that. What does he look like? Does he look exactly like a human?
Yeon: He’s stronger and more clever than I’d thought. And he knows all about you and me.
Ji Ah: My boss said something before. That he [Imoogi] is connected to me. There’s something in my body, isn’t there?
Yeon: ...
Ji Ah: I did have a vague sense that was the case. When I underwent hypnotherapy as a child... (“I was born on a leap month in a leap year...“) It was just like I’d been possessed by a gwishin. I don’t remember it at all, though.
Yeon: Does it scare you?
Ji Ah: Honestly, I am a bit scared. What would I do if I were to lose myself?
Yeon: I’d find you, of course.
Ji Ah: If, like back then, Imoogi takes me over and I were to harm you-
Yeon: We’ll catch him before it comes to that. For now, let’s start by rescuing the hostages.
8) Team Leader Choi’s poor timing 1
Tae Seok: Oh my what- what- what is all this?
Hye Ja: They’re pajeon.
Tae Seok: Oh, why would you- again with the complementary- hahaha
Hye Ja: You helped me that time when a fight broke out with a customer here, didn’t you?
Tae Seok: Oh, not at all! That was just, I- whenever I see that sort of unreasonableness, I just can’t let it pass; that sort of principle has been passed down since my great-grandfather- Ah, right! Would you sit for a moment? Please? Ah just a moment. A moment.
Hye Ja: Eh...I-
Tae Seok: There’s something I’ve thought seriously about since then, but- would you like to make an appearance on television? [As a] matjip.*
Hye Ja: Ha ha...I-
Tae Seok: See here. (Takes a bite) [dialogue garbled]. A matjip gifted by the gods. The people have a right to know about this place. And that’s what I do for a living. And, most important of all, the owner of this space has a perfect face! Yah~ This place is all ready. There’s nothing else to prepare!
Hye Ja: Ha ha ha Team Leader, could it be you also work as an agent?
Tae Seok: Pardon?
Hye Ja: Oh, you know, I’ve gotten a ton of calls from people saying they want to feature me on television only for them to con me out of 300 [?] at a time.
Tae Seok: I’m not that sort of person!! You’ve completely misunderstood me.
*n.b. matjip is a term originally used to refer to hot/popular eateries, but it’s been adopted colloquially to refer to anything that offers a great selection of X. So when people say TotNT is an ‘ending matjip’ they mean that it has a ton of great/suspenseful episode endings. Here, of course, it’s being used literally.9) Team Leader Choi’s poor timing 2
Imoogi: I’ll see you around.
Tae Seok: Oh, Teri-ya! How did you know about this place to-come...? (walks up to BHJ) I’ll say this directly. Have drinks with me.
10) Ji Ah’s dreams come true
Ji Ah: Ah~ Mom’s scent. Sleep well, mom.
Yeong Seon: Sleep well, darling daughter.
Ji Ah: You too, dad. Sleep well.
Jong Su: You sleep well, too, baby girl.
Ji Ah: Now neither of you can go anywhere.
Jong Su: Be humane; at least let us go to the bathroom.
11) An ideal ending to a sanggyeonrye*
Yeong Seon: Then you and I will play a game of badook next time.
Jong Su: Golfing with me comes first, I tell you!
Yeon: Yes, I’m on board for both badook and golf. But in exchange, I have one condition.
Jong Su: A condition?
Yeon: The kimbap we ate earlier, please teach me how to make it. I understand now why Ji Ah’s always going on about ‘kimbap, kimbap’.
Jong Su: Now that’s something I can teach you any time!
Ji Ah: We’re just going to grab a cup of coffee.
Yeong Seon: Sure.
Jong Su: Go on.
Yeon: I’ll see you again next time.
Jong Su: Yes.
Yeon: Ah, this way, this way.
Ji Ah: See you in a bit!
*n.b. The word used here (상견례) typically refers to an arranged meeting between the families of the bride and bridegroom.12) Our Ji Ah doesn’t hold back
Tae Seok: In any case, you be sure to tell Nam Ji Ah! Eh? If our viewership ratings don’t hit the double digits this time either, you die, I die, we all die! We’ll just all die! All of us!
Sae Rom: Tell her yourself.
Tae Seok: I did!
Sae Rom: And?
Tae Seok: ...She said she’d report me to the labor union.
