Obviously, this scene wasn’t deleted — but it was pared down. In their respective interviews, writer Yoo Hyun-mi chose it as the scene that she ‘personally had lingering regrets about’ and director Jo Hyun Tak identified it as the scene he ‘felt most sorry to fans for having edited down,’ confessing he agonised over the decision until the last moment. It comes up in the Blu-ray group commentary, as well, but the logic was that since, at this point, Soo-ho is heavily injured (multiple gunshot wounds, etc.) and the situation is both urgent and dire, pausing for anything more than a hug would have felt out of place. While I understand the logic, I’d still like to have seen both versions... ㅠ ㅠ

Young-ro runs like mad with everything in her. Even as she does, the ‘bang, bang, bang’ of gunfire begins to sound closer and then, as silence descends, Young-ro runs on, heartsick with worry that Soo-ho might be dead. Just as an even more heavily injured Soo-ho (having neutralized both the special forces guys) turns towards the emergency exit, Young-ro runs to him like a storm and throws herself into his arms. Soo-ho embraces her warmly. Tears roll down their cheeks as they cling to one another as though they can never again be parted and ... at last the two lovers share a heated kiss ... |
