Actor Jung Hae In identified ‘faith in the director and character’ as the reason he selected the project Snowdrop.
In Snowdrop, which will premier as JTBC’s new weekend drama on December 18th, Jung Hae In has taken on the role of Im Soo Ho, a Korean-German MA student with a complicated backstory. He shared a few anecdotes about the filming and about acting opposite Jisoo.
Jung Hae In said he decided to take on the project because, ‘the story was fascinating and I wanted to challenge myself with [playing] this character, but ultimately the reason I was able to decide on it was thanks to the director.’ He revealed that, ‘I was able to take part in this drama because the director was confident about the project and had faith in the Soo Ho I would portray.’
He further spoke about his character, explaining that, ‘I think Im Soo Ho is someone with strong leadership abilities. He takes care of his family and those around him, and he’s a character who is firm in his own convictions.’ Jung added that, ‘I focused a lot on how to properly portray the [internal] conflict that arises in the course of his beliefs collapsing, [trapped] between circumstances he can do nothing about and someone he loves.’
He also shared a few anecdotes about the filming. Jun Hae In stated that, ‘due to the nature of the character, there were parts where I had to look adept at combat and using a gun. In order for any movements involving the use of guns to look natural, when I was on standby on set I always kept the prop guns on me and made an effort to become accustomed to them.’ ‘Since, of the characters I’ve played to date, [Soo Ho] had to be in the best shape, I strictly managed my diet and found opportunities to exercise in the greenroom and worked out whenever I had time,’ he explained.
Jung Hae In will be acting opposite Jisoo, who will take on her first ever leading role in Snowdrop. Jisoo will be playing the role of Eun Young Ro, an upbeat freshman English Lit major at Hosu Women’s University.
Jung Hae In said that, ‘It felt like Jisoo was Young Ro incarnate. Her ability to portray the character was impressive, and the way she would grasp and absorb the director’s instructions was startling.’ He further revealed that, ‘We were well in sync, acting together. She’s an actor whose strong point is being kind and considerate towards everyone.’
Snowdrop is set in Seoul in the year 1987 and tells the story of a desperate love between Soo Ho, an elite university student who climbs into a women’s dormitory covered in blood, and Young Ro, the female college student who hides him and treats his wounds in the midst of a crisis.
Jun Hae In identified, ‘a compelling story, the actors’ portrayals, and the multitude of genres the project spans’ as top reasons for watching. ‘I hope that you’ll watch Soo Ho who, as the story unfolds, finds himself backed into a corner and in sudden danger, meets a woman named Young Ro, experiences love, and clumsily goes about expressing it,’ he shared.
JTBC’s new weekend drama, Snowdrop, will premiere on the night of the 18th at 10:30 pm.
