BLACKPINK Jisoo, Jung Hae In sunbae? “Dependable... He always works through my concerns with me. Having him as my first co-star was extremely fortunate”

Actess Jisoo opened up about appearing in Snowdrop and her on-screen chemistry with Jung Hae In.

Jisoo, who plays Hosu Women’s University English Department 1st year ‘Eun Young Ro’ in JTBC weekend drama Snowdrop (Script: Yoo Hyun Mi/ Direction: Jo Hyun Tak/ Production: DRAMAHOUSE Studios, JTBC Studios), pointed to the “charming character” as what made her want to appear [in the drama].

Jisoo revealed, “Young Ro, the character I play, was extremely charming. She’s a character who’s only just turned 20, but the personal magnetism she possesses came across to me. Her clumsy yet steady growth made her cool.” She added that Young Ro’s point of commonality with Jisoo herself was, “the way that she spreads her bright energy to the people around her and works to make sure everyone is able to be happy.”

Young Ro, the cheerful mood maker of Hosu Women’s University’s Dorm Room 207, falls for Soo Ho (Jung Hae In) at first sight when she meets him on a group blind date that she attends together with her roommates. This has generated anticipation for Young Ro, whom Jisoo will play.

Jisoo said, “While filming, I worked hard to think like Young Ro and conduct myself like Young Ro,” and added, “The fact that I talked endlessly with director Jo Hyun Tak about Young Ro is what I remember most. I made sure to never lose sight of what Soo Ho’s existence means to Young Ro and continuously prepared [my scenes] with that in mind.”

She also shared a filming anecdote about her fellow sunbae and hubae actors. Jisoo revealed that, “While filming, I genuinely became close with everyone, so it really felt like I’d been living in a dorm,” and that, “In particular, before filming began, I met up with the girls I share a room with, and we became close while rehearsing together and hanging out, so it was fun making [the drama] together with them.”

Snowdrop is set against the backdrop of 1987 Seoul and tells the ardent love story of Soo Ho, an elite university student who tumbles into a women’s dorm covered in blood, and women’s university student Young Ro, who hides him and treats his wounds during that crisis.

Regarding Jung Hae In, whom she met for the first time in Snowdrop, Jisoo expressed her impression that he was, “dependable and attentive.”

Jisoo said, “The fact that Jung Hae In sunbae was my first co-star was extremely fortunate for me,” and revealed that, “From the very first filming [session] to the very last, he monitored* [all of my parts] together with me, listened well to my thoughts and concerns about my role, and lead me, so he was very dependable. I think his way of lending an ear to what everyone has to say, sharing their concerns sincerely, and thinking things through with them is his greatest charm.”

In terms of the reaction from the members of BLACKPINK, Jisoo revealed that, “They told me they’ll be sure to watch the live broadcast. Because the members supported me and were curious, I also felt energized and ended up filming even more diligently.” For things to watch for, she pointed to “The beautiful televisuals that director Jo Hyun Tak and countless staff worked to complete, the stories of the diverse characters that appear in Snowdrop, and all the music that plays at just the right time and place.”

In regards to things that had changed for her after having filmed Snowdrop, Jisoo revealed, “I felt as if the range of diverse emotions I didn’t ordinarily experience expanded.” She expressed, “I think as Young Ro grew, I also grew one stage more. I won’t be able to forget this experience that was completed by combining my strength with that of many others.”

Snowdrop is attracting attention as the reunion of director Jo Hyun Tak and writer Yoo Hyun Mi of SKY Castle (2018), which stirred up a phenomenon in South Korea. Big-name actors such as Jung Hae In, Yoo In Na, Jang Seung Jo, Yoon Se Ah, Kim Hye Yoon, and Jung Yoo Jin star.

JTBC’s Snowdrop, which tells the story of political machinations and an intelligence war set against the backdrop of the 1987 presidential election and the romance that bloomed in the midst of it all, will begin airing on December 18 at 10:30pm.
