Tale of the Nine Tailed – ‘Baby Fox’ Kim Beom Elle Korea Interview (Extended Transcript)

Kim Beom talks TotNT and hyung Lee Dong Wook. Full interview available here.

Q1: Are you a morning person or a night person?

A: Both. I’m the type who doesn’t sleep much, so I don’t really sleep in in the mornings and I don’t get sleepy at night.

Q2: Something you do before going to sleep?

Check my schedule for the following day.

Q3: The first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

Check my schedule for today (laughing at himself) [Text: Professional!]

Q4:  Your favorite villain from a movie, drama, or novel?

A: Lee Rang! hahaha Lee Rang~

Q5: The best scene in Tale of the Nine Tailed by your own estimation?

A: During the Joseon Era, the scene where hyung cut me down hehe I feel like that’s where Lee Rang’s story really started, and it’s a story of the misunderstandings and emotions that began from there, so for me that was the most important scene.

Q6: One last thing you’d like to say to Lee Yeon within the Tale of the Nine Tailed?

A: Hmmm...‘hyung.’ ‘Hyung.’ I actually haven’t called him ‘hyung’ within the drama.* To me it’s a really important word, so ‘hyung.’

n.b. This interview was conducted before the final episodes aired.

Q7: If you really became a gumiho?

A: Oh, but I don’t want to be a gumiho (chuckles). I like being a person.

Q8: An emoji you’ve used a lot recently?

A: I’m the type who doesn’t really use emoji, but for the past while I’ve been using the fox emoji a lot.

Q11: Something you recently noted down in the ‘notepad’ function on your phone?

A: After wrapping filming on my final scene, something that Dong Wook-ie hyung said to me. I wrote it down in my notepad. [Asks someone to bring him his phone] (To himself) Will hyung be embarrassed...?

(To the camera) There was a pitcher named Bumgarner* [on the San Francisco Giants] and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that he led the team to victory all by himself, someone whose contributions all the media and fans acknowledge and say will go down in history. He had the nickname ‘Mad Bum.’  While saying that I was similar to that player, (getting choked up) he said I did my utmost...and came perfectly prepared...he said that to me. He said he also learned a lot from me and relied on me. That he was happy we got to act together.

n.b. LDW is also being witty because Bumgarner’s name spelled in Korean begins with ‘Beom.’

Q12: What is Lee Dong Wook like to act opposite from?

A: Hmmm...he was a really good hyung, a hyung it’s impossible to hate, a hyung I couldn’t help but want to emulate, and he’s a really reliable hyung.

Q13: What presses your humour button lately?

A: Being on set.

Q14: What presses your crying button lately?

A: Hahaha It’d have to be Dong Wook-ie hyung. Seeing just now [how I got choked up].

Currently? It’s been about one week since we wrapped filming on Tale of the Nine Tailed, but I still have a lot of emotions left over, and it seems that I haven’t fully been able to say goodbye to the character of Lee Rang, so when I think about the character Lee Rang and Dong Wook-ie hyung, I feel sad, yes.
